YSR Group was established to revolutionize Pakistan’s motorsports and automotive tuning industry. Before YSR, no company in Pakistan officially represented or distributed high-performance parts. Car enthusiasts and racers had to rely on third-party imports, often facing high prices, long delivery times, and a lack of professional support.
With YSR Group, performance parts are now readily available, allowing motorsports in Pakistan to reach new heights. The company not only supplies parts but also provides expert tuning solutions, ensuring that every vehicle gets the optimal setup for maximum performance.
The History of YSR Group
The Origins of YSR
YSR stands for Yasir Shahzad Racing, a name that has become synonymous with high-performance automotive tuning in Pakistan. Yasir Shahzad’s journey began in 1998, when he started tuning carburetor vehicles to enhance their performance. From a young age, he was deeply passionate about automotive engineering, and as the industry evolved, so did his expertise.
By the early 2000s, electronic fuel injection (EFI) systems became common, making traditional manual tuning methods obsolete. Recognizing this shift, Yasir began studying the Engine Control Unit (ECU), its functions, and how to unlock its potential for performance tuning. His journey into ECU modification started with the legendary Honda 1.5 VTEC engine, which came equipped with the OBD0 system. He successfully converted it to OBD1 and pioneered ECU chipping in Pakistan to optimize engine performance.
The Rise of Engine Tuning in Pakistan
After mastering Honda engines, Yasir expanded his expertise to DOHC engines, including the B16, B18, and K20 series, followed by the famous 4G63 engine from Mitsubishi’s Evolution series. His projects on these engines set new benchmarks in Pakistan’s automotive tuning industry.
During 2001 AND 2008, the import of Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) vehicles surged, giving Yasir access to high-performance cars and parts from Japan and around the world. He started tuning and modifying some of the most iconic cars, including:
- Toyota Supra
- Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (EVO)
- Honda Euro R
- Nissan Skyline
By 2010, Pakistan’s tuning scene was still fragmented, with each vehicle requiring separate software, protocols, and hardware modifications for tuning. The process was complicated, and in some cases, standalone ECUs were installed, or hardware modifications were made to extract power from stock ECUs. ECU reflashes were rare due to a lack of standardization.
The Discovery of Unichip & the Birth of Unichip Pakistan
In 2010, Yasir discovered Unichip, a revolutionary piggyback ECU system that allowed for customized tuning without altering the vehicle’s stock ECU. By 2011, Yasir introduced Unichip to Pakistan and established Unichip Pakistan, bringing a standardized tuning solution to the country. He traveled to South Africa for official training at Unichip’s headquarters, ensuring he had the expertise to maximize the potential of this technology.
In 2013, Unichip Pakistan installed Pakistan’s first dynamometer (dyno), marking a major milestone in the country’s automotive performance industry. This advancement allowed precise electronic tuning for diesel vehicles—a first in Pakistan’s history. Yasir also began tuning armored vehicles, meeting the growing demand for increased engine power due to their added weight.
Expansion into Motorsports and Rally Racing
By 2014, Yasir had expanded into desert rally racing, tuning vehicles for different rally categories:
- A-Prepared
- B-Prepared
- C-Prepared
In 2015, Unichip-tuned vehicles secured first place podium finishes in all three categories at the Jhal Magsi Desert Challenge, solidifying Yasir’s reputation as the top tuner for rally vehicles. Today, Unichip dominates Pakistan’s desert rally scene, with tuning solutions specifically tailored to Pakistan’s climate, fuel quality, and terrain conditions. This local expertise has also helped Yasir secure government contracts for tuning armored vehicles.
International Racing and Recognition
Between 2016 and 2017, Yasir took his passion for motorsports to the international stage, participating in racing events in Thailand and Malaysia. He also actively competed in Pakistan’s autocross and rally championships, securing multiple podium finishes.
The Formation of YSR Group and Its Global Partnerships
As Yasir’s reputation grew, so did his vision. He recognized that Pakistan lacked an official entity representing major performance parts brands, forcing enthusiasts to import parts individually at high costs. To bridge this gap, Yasir founded YSR Group, a company dedicated to bringing top-tier performance parts to Pakistan at competitive prices.
Today, YSR Group operates across Pakistan, with offices in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad. The company represents some of the world’s leading automotive performance brands, including:
